Recent and Upcoming Events

On this page we'll present a summary of past events and a calendar of upcoming activities.

We now have so excellent maps to show the extent of our waters courtesy of Simon Donnelly, so bookmark the site now and remember to come back!! If anyone wants a copy of the maps or want to see if Simon can do a map of a water or river they know I do have his email address and Postal Address.

The Annual subs for the 2008 season will remain at £60 for Seniors, £7 for Juniors, £12 for Intermediates, Part Membership has been reintroduced.

Up and Coming Events
The Club will be holding at least one day's bank clearance so if you like to either help out or tell us of a snag you'd like cleared give Derek Miller a ring or email me using the contact link on the website.

There's a new fishing Store open now at Woodbine Street, Hendon, Sunderland and it's the North-East Branch of the Fishing Republic. Surf over to www.fishingrepublic.net to see what they're offering.

We will also be looking to control the Hogweed problem along the Club's stretch of water too. More details in the next news letter.
Just a note to take care when walking around the river banks where the Giant Hogweed is once again growing. If you brush against the Stem or Leaves and get sap on your skin it will blister up badly.
A new season! does the idea of an Open Day for new or prospective members sound a good idea? Would anybody wish to lend a hand if we did have one? Just to show or discuss with new members how and where to fish and what methods to use. At present we have a lot of members who join for a year and then don't rejoin. This could be because they haven't had time to fish or could be because they have had the time but didn't catch anything and so disheartened they don't rejoin.

If anyone wants a Cane Rod built then can I recommend Richard or "Dick" James who lives in Shilbottle near Alnwick. He's worked for Hardy's and still does some work for them now he's "retired". Dick can make any pattern of rod you wish from a little light 4' Rod.... yes four foot! to a whacking 15' double-handed Salmon rod. Amazingly one of these rods is hand made of 6 pieces of Cane in a hexagonal design and is thinner than a match at the top. Dick has should have some 8 1/2' cane rod already made up For Sale at the moment, at a very attractive price. He does take orders for any kind of Rod and repairs Rods too. His address is 1, The Crescent, Shilbottle and phone No. is 01665-575548.
