Close Seasons:
The Coarse Fish close season for fish in Rivers, Streams,
Drains and Waterways is from and includes the 15th of March to and including the 15th of June.
The Trout close season is from the 30th of September to the
22th of March, both days exclusive. So the last day you can fish is on the 30th Of September and the first day is the
22nd of March but check the Club hasn't closed the Water for restocking!
The Salmon Close Season is the 31st of October - last day
to fish till the 1st of February - first day one can fish. But be warned the Estates water's do not open until the 2nd of
February.
Also no-one is allowed to fish for Salmon by any means other than with an artificial fly or
artificial lure before the 16th of June, so NO Prawns or Shrimps allowed before the 16th of June!
Also no-one is allowed to remove any live or dead Salmon taken by Rod and Line from any waters
or banks before the 16th of June, if they do they will be guilty of an Offence. This Byelaw shall not apply to any person
who lawfully takes a Salmon and returns it immediately to the water with the least possible injury.
The Migratory Trout (Sea-trout) Close Season is the 31st of October
- last day to fish - till the 3rd of April - first day one can fish.
Some of the Club's Rules & Regulations
Rule 19 Maggot fishing shall be banned on the club waters during the Annual close season
for coarse fish - 15th March to 16th June.
Rule 21 The method of fishing from Finchale Priory down-stream to Cocken
Farm, beginning of Mr Nicholson's private water, from March 22nd to April 30th shall be Fly only without exception.
This does however mean that you are allowed to spin from 2nd Feb until the 21st March in any year, then again from the 1st
of May to the end of the season.
When intentionally fishing for Brown Trout barbless hooks should be used and no more than two Brown
Trout shall be taken in any one day, each fish must be at least 10 inches from nose to the cleft of the tail, anything smaller
must be returned to the water. It is a recommendation that all brown trout be returned.
No more than two Salmon maybe killed in anyone day and it is recommended that no member should kill more
than 15 Salmon a season on the Club's water.
No more than Six Sea-Trout be killed on Club waters in any given day.
No Grayling maybe killed on Club waters, and it's probably a good idea to follow the Brown Trout rule with
barbless hooks used when fishing for Grayling too.
Members must carry their membership card and Environment Agency Licence when on Club waters and produce
same to any Club Member or anyone else authorised to inspect Card and Licence together with any fish, bait, tackle, etc they
may have.
Senior members may purchase a guest permit to take a friend fishing on any Club waters. Fees are £5 for
any day till 31st August, £10 thereafter.
